Projecting Creativity into Relationships

Invisibilia: Photos of You, Minus You

We got this picture from Invisibilia, a funny little project from themanwhofellasleep. He takes random photos, then digitally removes the people and replaces them with drawings.

His disclaimer: "Yeah, I know: Anyone can trace a drawing. But so what? I am doing it, and you're not." Valid points!

He goes on to explain that the pictures might represent the way we all work to remove our true selves from the world and attempt to replace them with fictionalized versions of ourselves ... "or maybe it's just tracing." Either way, we think it's pretty cool.

If you can't find the man of your dreams, we suggest you make one up. Often times as a relationship fades we tend to come to the conclusion it was not the actual guy we dated that we found so attractive. Instead, it was our "Cinderella" within that allowed us to overlook the human shortcomings and psychologically insert that "Prince" we hoped so much he would decide to be. If you are like me, usually, you find you have been in love with some 'Golden Book' internalization appropriate to whatever generation you arrived. Awkward as it is, both parties will ultimately suffer similar doses of reality. Finally, both male and female take away a bit of parting gifts in the form of less than fond memories since fantasy seldom blends well with the reality of sheer disappointment. I call it a "mental infidelity".
